Default my shift lever is stuck in park

my 1994 f150 is stuck in park after about 5 min of working the ignition switch back and forth it shifted in gear but when I put in back in park and shut the ignition off it does it again its something to do with the ignition switch. I know when the key is not in it and turned on the steering wheel and shifter wont move which is normal. when I got the key on the steering wheel will turn but the shifter wont move. any ideas ?

Most likely the wire(s) on the brake light switch on the brake pedal are making intermittent contact.

Repair those wires and you should be good to go.

Same thing happened on old escape. Tried to leave store and wouldnt leave park. Tried rocking the truck tried a bunch of things till google said if brake lights dont work its a fuse.

Fuse blows - brake lights stop working - park wont disengage because it doesnt see brakes on.
Terrible design.

You can thank the mid 80's Audi's for the brake/shift interlock. As a result of many accidents and a couple fatalities because people left the car running in park and the shifter would slip out of park and into gear and run their owners over, one I remember in particular, a woman got out to open her garage door and the car pushed her thru the garage door thru the back wall of the garage and into their swimming pool, there were no survivors.

How do cars "slip out of park?" Do you mean, the drivers didn't fully shift into park, and park was never really engaged?

Possibly driver error yes.

Slipped out of park, jumped out of park, shifted out of park. Pick the verb that suits.

Big stink about it back then and was a direct result in having a shift lock device installed in all vehicles by a certain date, not sure exactly when it became mandatory.
