Default My first truck - Need Advice

Hi everyone,

So I don't own an F150 or any other truck yet. I've been admiring trucks for some time now. Test driven most of them and finally decided on the truck that first caught my eye, the F150.

Here's what I can't decided NA V6 or 3.5 Eco? The truck will be a daily commuter, I will not be towing / hauling any loads. Here's what I'm thinking.

F150, XLT SuperCrew 5.5 box, 302A, Magnetic, Sports apperance package.

What do you guys think NA V6 or Eco 3.5?

Depends on the kind of daily driver you are looking for.

Do you want the reliable daily driver that gets pretty good mileage as you ease your way up to the speed limit?

Or do you want to be able to blow the doors off anyone that you feel the need too? Sometimes its nice to have that power, you've already choose to have a truck as a daily driver, go the extra step and get the power!

I think with the options you are picking the Eco will be a wise choice.

My Eco gets pretty good mileage when I granny drive, but that sucker drinks gas like a big block if I wanna pass everyone up the coquillhala highway.

Depends on your budget for the new truck. If you could afford it go ahead and get the Ecoboost, you may not need all that power on a daily basis but it's there if you need it. Plus if you ever were to sale later down the road i'm sure your trade-in or re-sale value would be quite a bit more.

The na v6 has more hp than the 5.0 v8 from 1996, with that said if you don't do any towing go na. Personally I would get the 5.0, and I did, it's nice to have the power in reserve when needed. Nothing says American muscle like 8 cylinders breathing.

I want a reliable daily driver with good gas mileage that uses regular unleaded. I've driven a Honda Civc for the past 7 years. So compared to that anything NA or Eco will have more power than what I'm use to. Don't want more truck than I need.

I'm not an aggressive driver and I've read some things about carbon build up. Is being conservative going to be a problem with the Eco?

Go with a f350 twin turbo diesel with a single wheel. Slap a 8inch lift with some 37s.

If you're just using it as a DD, then the N/A 6 should be plenty.

It gets decent gas mileage, and will haul anything you put in the bed with no issues.

The EB makes a nice "sporty" truck (all things considered, of course). It's faster to 60 than many cars / SUVs or sports cars of 5-10 years ago, but it doesnt sound like you need / want that.

For a DD, 99% of the time, the EB is overkill (I know, I have one )... but if / when you're trying to make good time on a long trip, up an 8% incline at 85mph, the EB is the schitz

I agree.

Don't get caught up in the pecker comparison competition.
The N/A V6 is more powerful then the Ford V8's just a few years ago.
Coming from driving a Civic for 7 years with 140hp?? , this will be amazing to you.

The EcoBoost doesn't get it's rated MPG's with the 3.73 gear at all on the highway at 70-75mph. So I'll be the first to tell you that as I just did 2400 miles and averaged 17mpg highway. New air filter, only 20,000 miles on the truck.
