Default My 2013 is a month old now...

My truck is a 2013 Tux Black FX4 S-Crew short wheelbase with 402A and Appearance with 3.73s and EB. I love the power, I love the looks, I love the alcantara, I love the black wheels, etc, etc.
Now, here's what I don't "love" so much: first off, this is my first ever truck. I always thought trucks would have a good ride. However, I notice the ride is fairly rough. I do live in the Edmonton, AB where the roads aren't the greatest, but they're definitely not the worst roads out there either. Does anyone else notice the harsh ride too? I'm guessing the 20s might have something to do with it? If so, the ride must be worse on a Limited with 22s? Also, having Acura, Lexus, and Audi as my previous cars, I'm used to some refinement. I have noticed some minor (hopefully "minor") little squeeks and rattles in this truck. I'm a very picky guy, so most of these sounds are probably not even noticeable to the average driver. Is it just down to craftsmanship/ford build quality? Are those little noises of imperfection normal?

All in all, I absolutely love this truck, especially in the trim I got. The lag is definitely not as bad as I thought. An F-series truck is the only truck I will ever drive. I think RAMs have brutal resale, I think GMCs are butt-ugly, and I don't know how a truck the price of a tundra crew-max platinum doesn't, to this day, have HIDs. I won't even comment on that pickup from Nissan, whatever it's called. Guys, this F150 is sick, and I'm lovin' the appearance package. I also have a soft spot for the FX4 non-appearance in oxford white. Sorry for going on and on, but I couldn't have thought of a better way to spend what I did.

Thanks for everyone's opinions and info. No one on here ever blamed me or said I was wrong for choosing one engine/color/rear end ratio/etc, etc over another. Everyone just gave me their own opinions. It's not like this on some of the other forums I've been on for other cars. This community is awsome, and glad to be a part of it. Thank you everyone. Continue enjoying your F-series!!

Well making a ride comparison from a truck to an Audi, Lexus or Acura which are engineered with a different set of criteria then a 6000 pound truck definitely will result in a noticeable difference. With that being said going back several years a driver of a Lexus wouldn't even consider driving a pick-up truck as they were rough around the edges and considered a work truck but now these trucks cater to a broader range of drivers. I've replaced my stock shocks already on my 2013 to level and improve the ride quality.

I do agree though that rattles and squeaks are more noticeable on a truck or a domestic vehicles in general IMO and yes I think it's down to craftsmanship and build quality but it's not a game breaker unless it causes malfunctions, breakdowns or annoying conditions that aren't meant to be. Lucky my truck is rattle or squeak free for the most part. Another observation when you get down and close to washing and waxing your truck you'll find many areas with "orange peel" paint this would never be acceptable in the range of cars you mentioned. The F150 paint lines need a little tweaking.

Enjoy your new ride!

My 2013 Screw 4x4 is 1 month old as well and those are a couple of my complaints as well. The ride is rougher than my old Ranger and because of the rough ride I have a couple places that rattle. I have to look past those things because I love this truck.

I came to my F-150 from a 5-series BMW. I also still have a Z3, and have had Mercedes and BMWs going back to the 80s. I have also lived in the Minneapolis area and frequently go to Wisconsin - while not Alberta, these locales have their fair share of horrible roads.

But I've got to say, my 2013 FX4 w/ 20s rides pretty darn good. Surely, it's a bit rough, and I think that's due to the off-road suspension - if I were in a Lariat or Platinum or Limited without the added beef, I'm sure the ride would be even better. But I suppose it's just that I kind of expect it given it's a truck. But even still, the ride is really good, and I'm more than impressed with how quiet the ride is.

I moved to ford from previously being a Chevy guy. Owned a S15, Canyon and a 1500HD prior to my F150 Limited. Granted the previous trucks i had weren't at this trim level but just overall look and feel, I beleive the F150 blows every other brand out of the water.

I traded in my summer driver 2001 Integra for my F150 and I felt the Edmonton roads way more than that than my new truck. I don't find the Limited to have too rough of a ride on our streets, it is still way better than the way my 1500HD felt.

We'll see how these handle in our winters. I bought some 18" fx4 rims to save my 22's from the winter, i am interested to see how the truck handles with the bigger rubber.

I guess mine is a month old too and I feel that there are some "Trucky" issues as well but I can't complain cause it is a truck. I was sick of cushy low to the ground rides and am soooo glad I stepped into a big lunk of a truck. Yes mine is only an STX but she has some options and is mine.

Some rattles have come about like all vehicles and I average about 13 MPG, lol. Still, the best vehicle I have owned to date!

As for the wheel size, that does play a role. My FX 18" wheels have plenty of tire and it is smooth as can be. My Wife even sad it is the smoothest vehicle I have owned.

I glad you are enjoying your truck brother. We test drove a 4x4, and a 4x2 back to back. Both of us noticed the 4x4 did ride a little rougher. I'm sure it has to do with the set up. However, the new 4x4's are as smooth as a Lincoln compared to 4x4's of yesteryear.

I've owned Toyota, Dodge, GMC, Chevy, and older Ford trucks and this one is by far the smoothest quietest riding of them all.

When you buy something that can carry a half ton load or more you have to expect a stiffer ride.

The roads in Deadmonton will bring any rattle or squeak out in your truck!

Glad you're enjoying it though. I'm about to trade in my nightmare lemon 2011 in for a 2013 soon.
