the last 5 digits of the VIN have nothing to do with what motor the truck has...

This is where the auto manufacturers enter unique information about the particular vehicle the VIN belongs to. The name of the assembly plant, extra options added to the vehicle, Production Sequence Number and things of that nature. And all 5.0s are not the same. There are differences between F-150 and Mustang, for example, that typically make simple swaps between the two hard to accomplish.
