Default Mods to NOT do

There are tons of mods out there, many are cool. Still there are some that seem cool and actually arent. Also theres some that arent at all. Tell us a mod that you think sucks, or you found out the hard way is detrimental.

CAI - Waste of time and money. Does not increase fuel mileage because more air in = more fuel in to keep the stoichiometric ratio where the ECU is happy. Allows more dirt into engine. Can foul MAF sensors if an oiled filter is used. Generally the biggest scam ever created.

Under-drive pullies - In theory free up a few horsepower, but cause charging system to undercharge which opens a new can of worms and many times requires the addition of heavy duty alternator. This gets very expensive. Dollar per horsepower ratio is horrendous.

Throttle body - This mod does absolutely nothing for you unless everything downstream from the TB is also upgraded to match the airflow. And then, you need a custom tune to make it all work in harmony.

Blue headlights - Not only are they usually illegal, but they are also extremely annoying to other drivers. Additionally, that blue portion of the light spectrum doesn't cut through fog as well as the amber portion of the spectrum, and therefore these bulbs are like throwing money into the wind.

Tinted tail lights - If you get rear-ended with these on your truck, the insurance company may (and should) hold you responsible for the entire accident. Why in the blue h*** people think it's cool to cover up a part that is a safety feature I have no idea. Windows are one thing, purposefully crossing the line into covering up your lights so they are hard to see is stupidity.

I could go on but I'm tired of typing right now. Lol.

We had a guy on here a while back who tinted his headlights and then asked why he had reduced light output and what he could do about it.

Haha, this just makes me laugh and shake my head in disbelief at the same time. I know some intelligent people who do this and then have no clue as to why the mpg dropped.

Also, CAI.
