Post Misfire on cylinder #1

I own a 2001 F150 4WD 4.2 L. V6. I love this truck and I do novice mechanics. A code came up for misfire on #1. No "Check Engine" light on. But another light that says "Service Engine Soon" will occasionally blink on and off and then stop blinking. There is soft knock sound during acceleration. Oil is perfect and I have always maintained it well. Replaced #1 spark plug wire and still misfires. I am requesting where to start finding the cause. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum bud. I also own a 2001, but a 5.4l. I imagine your truck is running pretty rough, so lets get down to the point. The "Check Engine" light on our generation trucks is the "Service Engine Soon." A flashing light indicates the PCM indicates a misfire, whereas all other DTC's (codes) will have a steady light. Flashing is solely related to a misfire. Your fix is going to be a ignition coil. Make sure to unplug the computer while changing anything with ignition parts, such as the coil pack. I'll drop a link below where you can call or walk your local stores and get pricing and availability. Any of these coil packs will work. This is a common thing with the 4.2 L trucks, so yours is not a lemon. I hope you get it fixed and if you have anymore questions, feel free to reply.

Swap that coil to another cylinder to see if the code follows it.

I believe these have coil packs, not coil plugs.

Woops, right you are. I must have skimmed over the V6 part.

No worries. I do it all the time. You have the fix for it right though!
