Default Wheel Weights

I've got nicks and spots where the chrome is peeling badly from where old wheel weights have been on my factory rims. I'm wanting to upgrade wheels soon and wondering if y'all have the same problem or is it just these crappy factory rims? Also anyone used stick on weights because when I get new rims I don't want them messed up the same as these are.

This used to happen to me as well with my old rims. I just put up with it because I knew I was going to eventually ditch them for nice black ones. I ended up getting xd monsters and the shop I got all that work done at put on the stick on wheel weights behind the wheel spokes. You can't even tell they're there and as far as I can tell they're keeping my wheels balanced good.

Each and every time wheels need to be balanced .....
  • NO weights on the outside of the rim.
  • stick-on on the inside. *Behind the spokes whenever possible.
  • if weight is needed on the lip of the inside of the rim they're ALWAYS coated.
  • no more than 1oz of total weight per wheel. *If necessary rotate the tire position on the rim and retry

I'm guessing most tire shops will do this if you ask them?

If they won't, find another tire shop... I had to fight with the jeep dealer a couple years ago, because they messed up 2 of my wheels (scratched to hell) after balancing them with clip weights on there, and the weights slid and scratched the wheels up.

11rangerZ520 - I'm guessing most tire shops will do this if you ask them?
LONG ago and FAR away while going to college I worked in a tire shop. That's the way we did it and that was good enough for me.

Now get the hell off my lawn!

It does take time to do it right, however, that is not the norm. So ... Unfortunately you do have to ask for it.

My current setup (FRPP 2009 Lightning - 20x10 with YOKOHAMA Parada Spec-X - 275/55) has a total of 1½ oz for all 4 wheels. My 2003 Crown Victoria setup (Marauder - 18x8 with BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW NT - 255/45) has a total of ¾ oz for all 4 wheels and has never been rebalanced since installation in 2007.

Ok thanks for the help guys. There's several tire shops in my town so I'm sure I can find someone to do it right.

Best of luck! It's hard to find a shop that takes the time to do a job right the first time.

Hopefully I can find someplace good but, I have been paying close attention to nice wheels in park lots and such lately and I can't believe the damage caused by wheel weights to some of these wheels. Maybe I'm just being too picky but if I'm buying a nice new set of wheels I don't want some stupid weight messing them up.
