Default Light in center console 04' F150

I have a 04' F150 with only 36,000 miles on it. The Light in the center console (displaying the gears) went out. I talked with two other friends, one has 04' F150 and the other has 06' F150 both trucks the light went out in center console also. Is anyone aware of wide spread issue with the center console? In fact the 06' F150 the wire to the lighting element actaully got so hot it melted the bracket holding it in place and ended up resting against the side of the console inside and burning a hole through the side of the console. Talked with Ford dealership and they said they see no on going problems with the center console..Just seems odd that the two people I know with F150s have same issue. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There's no TSB (at least for the 06s). I think it's common enough that there is a walk through on here on replacement.
