Default Anyone have a tonneau cover and a toolbox in your bed?

I want a tonneau cover for my bed but I need to keep my toolbox. What are my options. I see 5.5' tonneau covers but with my toolbox my bed space is only 5 feet. What are my options? Could I alter/cut down a 5.5' cover to fit? I'm looking at soft covers not hard.

Do you need access to your tools without opening the tonneau? I keep my tools in a tub under my cover.

It would be nice to keep my toolbox. It's large and holds all of my tools not to mention it locks. I would have to come up with an entirely different system if I got rid of it and went with only a cover.

What I did on one of my old trucks was bolt a 1x2 to the side of the box and folded the cover under. clamp it with the 1x to keep it tight. if you take the box off you still have a cover that will fit the truck.

I have a tonneau cover with a tool box and also a front ladder rack. Had to do some custom work.
A few years ago I won a Ford tonneau cover on Ebay for $25. It cost me more in gas (when gas was $3.50 a gallon) and tolls to travel the 2 hr round trip to get it. Overall total including cover was about $80. I couldn't get myself to buy a new cover and Macgyver it up so this was worth the expense.
I had to modify the cover and frame, raise the tool box and around the ladder rack I used the excess cover to wrap a piece of wood to block the gap from the front of the tool box to the front of the bed because of the type of ladder rack I have I couldn't push the tool box to the front of the bed and had a 4" gap.

It only leaks around the tool box area but not that bad. I didn't expect it to be 100% leak free but from the tool box back it is leak free so I can put tools and other stuff in back half without concern it them getting wet.
If I was to silicone around the box and ladder rack legs I probably could get it almost leak free. Not to concerned about it...yet.
It still beats wrapping my saws and other tools in plastic when it's raining.

I take some pics if I remember.

Hi Steeltownf150,

Have you looked into our ACCESS Toolbox Cover? Our toolbox covers are meant to workwith most 19” to 21” over the rail tool boxes (front to back depth where itsits upon the bed). It would be best to get the year make and model along withbed length to verify the fit if our tool box meet our criteria.

Thanks

I have two tool boxes...Swing Cases that is. I had them in my 2010 too so I've been using them for five to six years at least. 2010's didn't work in the 2016. The 2015-2017 versions work with existing holes so no drilling. If you have a bed-liner insert it requires some modifications.

I paired with the Undercover Flex in my 2016 - http://www.undercoverinfo.com/products/flex

They were under the Undercover Classic in my old truck (no I don't work for Undercover). You can put them under any Tonneau.

I have the access. this is my second truck with it and its perfect,. they are practically water tight in the rain too. I love it and fits perfect. I would look into them as with a box they are the easiest to install and use....

in my book they are the only solution for me!!

Access rollup cover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any chance you still have the ones from your 2010 and want to sell them?

A few companies make covers to work with cross bed boxes. these guys have a decent selectionhttps://www.carid.com/toolbox-tonneau-covers.html If money is no object you might consider a hard roll up with the canister and integrated toolbox.
