Lesson Learned
Though I have on owned my 13 FX4 for a month now, it taught me a lesson in a nice way this morning. While warming up this morning I ran her out of gas. Though the gauge was on "E" the electronics still said 55 miles to empty and the" low fuel light" had not turned on. I turned the ignition and it just would not fire. First of all I was in a panic I thought something else was wrong, until I just happened to think "this bitch is out of gas". Not until I caught a ride to the store got 5 gallons of gas and poured into her did I really know. I held my breath and she started right up, at that time the "Low Fuel" light came on, and I thought to myself "no ****". I drove to the store where I put 26 more gallons of gas in. I am not sure how many gallons my tank is, but I do know it will never be empty again. I have been driving for 37 years and only ran out of gas in a car or truck 2 times, it has to be the stupidest thing in the world to do. Thank god I was home.

It happens.. I don't understand why so many run their cars so low on gas, to even put yourself in that situation. Especially with the price of fuel these days.

Lesson is....
Listen to your truck the first time it tells you that you are low on fuel. And the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th etc. Mine seems to be pester be about every 10 minutes after the first if I am still driving.

I make it a point to head for the pump when I get to 1/4 tank.

I'm shocked the low fuel light hadn't turned on. Sorry to hear, but a good reminder to me not to let the fuel in my truck get so low that I am expecting that light to go on.

Was it possible that the truck was parked on an incline [sloping drivel] if so the fuel would run to the low end of the tank and what fuel was in the pick up trap was used for warm up.

The tank is 36 gallons more than likely. The fuel gauges on these trucks are way off. My low fuel indicator comes on with around 90 miles until empty, but the fuel indicator is almost on E at that point. I have ran it down to where it says 20 miles remaining, and filled it up and topping off, I was only able to squeeze 33.5 gallons in, meaning that there was still over 2 gallons in the tank.
I just fill mine up when it gets to 1/4 tank to avoid any problems. The massive tank is long, and when it gets low if you are on an incline, the pump can have pick up problems.
