Scuba Ken, I am looking into doing this for my Bed LED strips, any idea how and what wires to tap into ? I need a little help as I'm new to forum.
I do not want to have truck re-programed and want to add them off same switch in cab and /or use remote.

any help as to location of wiring and which wires sure would be big help

Thanks

F150RACERED:

I pulled the rear brake light that has the bed lights in it.
Tapped off the power feed to the bed lights as a source to feed LED lights mounted in the bed itself.

Works great and yes, doors open, bed lights up. press remote unlock, bed lights up. They in turn turn off with the overhead light.

Simple and effective. Work exactly as I like.
I also have a backflip tonneau so the bed lights under the rail are very helpful!

I think you said you want them to come on when you open the tail gate,(is this with out the key on or not to come on when you press the key fob?) I would run a separate power source that is hot all the time, just add a fuse to it, to protect the lights.

You could also use a photocell so that when you open the tail gate during the day the lights wont come on, but if it's dark out and you open the tail gate they will come on.
I just happen to find this,

No relay.
The draw is so small with LED's it was not needed.

Very simple setup I have. If I need the lights on longer than the interior delay ( which is fairly rare) I can simply leave a door open or press the unlock again.

FYI, I tried to find the feed in the door sill and was unsuccessful which is why I went directly to the light wire itself.

Hope this helps you!

I am hoping to start on this tomorrow. I am planning on running power from the battery to the bed with an inline fuse. Mag switch in the tailgate and bed side to turn on the lights and a rocker mounted in on of the bed holes to shut off when needed. We will see how it goes.

So I got this done today. I am pretty happy with how it turned out.

Magnetic switch and rocker to shut off when tailgate is down if needed.
