to the site lockateer

I don't think it's that easy if it's even possible at all. The stereo shop that installed a remote starter in my truck needed a programmed key to use in the pats bypass module. Why not jut buy a key and program it for a spare? It would be a lot easier. Those keys can be bought on Ebay for around $7.00 plus shipping. A locksmith should only charge around 2-3 dollars to cut it and programming it is easy, your owners manual show you how to do this with two already programmed keys. If you loose a key and only have one left the dealer will break your bank to make you a new key. I think they charge 80-100$

I think it was the 99 model and up when Ford started using PATs keys

I lost one of my keys and the dealership charged me $120 to cut a new one and then program it. I have'nt found a way to bypass the system.

You might be able to get away with using regular non-chipped keys by affixing your programmed key to the underside of the steering column (tape, tie strap, etc). The downside is more risk from theft, but you'll have to weigh those risks and do what you think is best. I personally wouldn't do it, but I can see where some poeople might want to.

Been there, done that, it didn't work. The signal isn't strong enough to make it work. If on the other hand you hold the already programmed PATs key over the bow of the plain steel key it will start the truck but any further away than that it won't work.
