Maybe some of you have heard this: hit 55-60 MPH, start hearing a whistling sound.

I should not be hearing this in a vehicle with less than 3K miles. Maddening.

So, I seal every door and window seal around the cab. Painters tape was safe on my paint. No change. Take off the bug deflector, no change. Feet of weather stripping in all the doors, no change. Even watched that YouTube vid from the guy who said that the noise was coming from his driver's door key pad...taped it up, no change. My truck was a tape and weatherseal bomb after a couple of weekends work, no change. Almost got to the point where I wanted to demand that the dealership fix the whistle, but after reading some of the horror stories of mechs taking stuff apart and wrecking things, I was hoping not to go down that road.

Then...I took my wife for a ride, asked her what she thought. She said, "sounds like its coming from my side, and it sounds like it is coming from outside." What's outside the cab and on the passenger's side? The antenna mast!

My F150 came with a lift and big *** tires, and the factory antenna was hitting the garage door pretty bad. I went on Amazon and purchased a shorter billet antenna that wouldn't hit the garage door. You know how the factory mast has the spiral ridge going up the length of it? Yeah, turns out that's to help with wind noise. The cheapo Amazon replacement had no spiraling. Took off the cheapo antenna, no more wind noise.

Thank. Freaking. God. This was driving me nuts. In reality, I don't even listen to the radio, so I just threw a stainless screw in the antenna pole until I do some proper research on a shorter mast option that doesn't make wind noise.

So if you replaced your factory antenna and are getting a bad wind whistle, try popping that thing out and see if it goes away. Hope this helps someone!

I got a Stubby antenna within the first few days I had the truck. I don't have the whistle. The Stubby is the shortest I've seen. Maybe a good option here.

I'll check it out, thank you for the info. How's the reception on the stubby? Read mixed reviews on them.

Like many owners, my antenna was hitting the garage door when I brought my new f150 home. After a little research, I made the decision to cut my original antenna before buying aftermarket. There is a lot of information out there on how it's done. (I took a full 4 inches off mine).

It works great, looks great, and does not whistle at all. Just a suggestion that may save a little money.
