I contacted my Service guy at my Dealership and they said that they can enable the Police Dark feature; however, they said they will charge me 1hr labor ($114).

gDMJoe, I only have 1,300 miles on my truck. Can you provide additional info about, "*If you have 12,000 miles or less on your vehicle it will be *free*? Is this a Ford Corporate offering or a dealership thing?

Was told that by a FoMoCo dealership service department advisor (who's also the manager). From what I gathered it's considered SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for any changes within the 1st 12,000 miles.

But HEY! ... Never saw it written-down anywhere so perchance it's my local dealership's policy.

But then too ... I've built-up a VERY GOOD rapport with all departments of any of the FoMoCo dealerships that I've done business with.

gDMJoe: Thanks for the info, I'll shoot FORD an inquiry email and see what they have to say and I'll post the results on this thread for future posterity.

Spooner: I purchased the truck from Team Ford. I have had issues with George and Richard in service returning my calls and the service manager is the one that said (per Richard) that they must charge and that there is not a 12,000 mile window for this type of request.

At this point, it's not about the $, its the principle that Ford removed important features from thier vehicles and that they are not willing to readily impliment a solution for a new vehicle purchase.

Stay tuned, this isn't over yet...

for me the issue would be more how long does it take to do? I realize a lot of stuff has to be "standardized" so that what takes one mechanic 10 seconds and another 2 hours can be balanced out ... but seriously, if all they have to do is plug it in and push a few buttons but they want an hour of "labor" ?

Yeah. This would be so cool to have as a feature. Sometime I don't want the dome lights to come on so people don't see what I'm doing. I had this feature in big trucks (18 wheelers) when I drove. it was just a flip of a switch.

I have received a Tier 1 email back from FORD. They have acknowledged the issue and have elevated my request to a Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME).

Spooner: I'll get a hold of Greg next week if I don't hear back from Ford.

Thank you,

Thumbs up

Ok Gentlemen here is the deal:

I received my response from Ford SME and they state that Police Dark Car Feature is only available to law enforcement. In response to this last week, I requested Tier 2 elevation. I have heard Zero back from Ford. They sure know how to taint an otherwise good customer experience.

Shame on you FORD for one, taking away control of these features and two, playing the role of big brother and saying you can't have this... its for your safety. That's BS.

On the bright side I went back to Team Ford here in Las Vegas and spoke with George in service and he said they would enable it with a one hour labor fee. I agreed. It only took the tech about 15 minutes to locate the parameter in the BCM and ENABLE it so they only charged me half hour. Which I am pleased about.

Note: One of my other major complaints is that I can not dim the dash lights to off. Low and behold, enabling Police Dark Car Feature now allows me to dim my dash lights to near OFF (far better than before).

Locking and unlocking the vehicle with the FOB still flashes the lights but overall, I am pleased with the outcome of this. It just leaves me to wonder what other cool features can be changed in the BCM and other modules. Anyone have access to a list???

unfortunately no, the only place it was posted is in the link I posted in the very first reply in this thread that nobody seems to be able to reference - it's almost like my posts have some sort of police dark mode enabled.... it's a mystery that'll never be solved
