Default Idle speed

Long story short i cleaned my throttle body on my 2005 f150 and got a bunch of gunk out then put everything back together get in my truck and usually it idles at 750 rpm but i noticed now even 4 days later it will go to 1000 rpm them back to 750 on and off every 20-40 seconds even if ive been driving it for awhile Do i have a leak? Maybe i need to replace a intake manifold gasket? Vacuum leak?

Post Caution on cleaning

My truck is older than yours, so you may need to check a newer service manual to see if they still carry these cautions that I found in mind.

Caution: No attempt should be made to clean the throttle body bore/plate area by directly spaying or scrubbing.
Do not spray directly on throttle plate.
Caution: Do not use cleaning procedure on Nipondenso bypass valves.

There are seals and other parts that carb. spray will damage.

Did you disconnect the battery?
Did you go through the relearn process?
If not, here are 2 procedures that should be helpful:

Now that you've cleaned your TB do a TPS reset, it won't hurt a thing and may improve your Throttle response also.
Put Key in the ignition and turn to the ON position, remove the drivers side floor mat, don't start motor, let the bells and chimes do their thing and when they finish push the peddle to the floor and then release the peddle to come back up, turn key to the OFF position, now repeat two more times.
After doing this start the motor and go for a ride and see if it's as good as new!
PS. don't start the motor and floor it, just drive it like you want to keep it!
----------------------------
This is used for clearing codes by disconnecting the battery cable for 15 mins. Be sure there is no cell phone chargers/lap top/anything like that plugged in. While cables are disconneted I always cycle the key. And turn the head lights on. Then follow it up by the relearn process.

Battery relearn
Because your vehicle’s engine is electronically controlled by a computer,
some control conditions are maintained by power from the battery. When
the battery is disconnected or a new battery is installed, the engine must
relearn its idle and fuel trim strategy for optimum driveability and
performance. Flexible fuel vehicles (FFV) must also relearn the ethanol
content of the fuel for optimum driveability and performance. To begin
this process:
1. With the vehicle at a complete stop, set the parking brake.
2. Put the gearshift in P (Park), turn off all accessories and start the
engine.
3. Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature.
4. Allow the engine to idle for at least one minute.
5. Turn the A/C on and allow the engine to idle for at least one minute.
6. Release the parking brake. With your foot on the brake pedal and with
the A/C on, put the vehicle in D (Drive) and allow the engine to idle for
at least one minute.
7. Drive the vehicle to complete the relearning process.
• The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles (16 km) or more to
relearn the idle and fuel trim strategy along with the ethanol content
for flexible fuel vehicles.
• If you do not allow the engine to relearn its idle trim, the idle quality of your vehicle may be adversely affected until the idle trim is
eventually relearned.
• For flexible fuel vehicles, if you are operating on E85, you may
experience poor starts or an inability to start the engine and
driveability problems until the fuel trim and ethanol content have been
relearned.

Aside from the above, did you clean the MAF?
If the throttle body was dirty, the MAF will also be dirty. It must be cleaned ONLY with MAF cleaner.
Have you checked the FPDM?
The FPDM is mounted above the spare tire and frequently corrodes. Need to lower the spare tire and take a look. If it is corroded replacements can be had at local parts stores for $100+ or on Amazon for $60.

As long as you use Throttle body cleaner and remove it from the intake while cleaning its perfectly fine and should be done. no harm using a soft tooth brush either.
