Hated to bring that up and please don't ban me for it, but with snow season right around the corner and this being my first truck I kind of need to know. I have decent tires 70% tread left do I need to put any extra weight in the back? I have that traction button thingy but haven't read what it does yet. I do have a 200lb leer cap on it.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

I have never done anything different for winter. I live just north of Toledo and haven't even had to use 4*4 cause of snow. Never put weight in the bed either. Decent tires go a long way.

IT's not the tires that are "good in snow"...it's the driver. Keep a safe following distance and slow down a little bit. Common sense stuff. I toss about 250# in the bed for winter. It helps on those days of a couple inches of snow where 4X4 isn't too necessary. The trick is to havbe the truck in 4X4 BEFORE you NEED it. Don't use it on dry roads, but learn to predict when you'll need it. Snow is in the forecast here in WI. WooHoo!!!!!

First thing read what the "traction button thingy" does. 4x4 is great in the snow as what was said above. One thing about driving in snow with 4x4 is you get a false sense of safety.

Thanks for the replies gents I wasn't sure if it was standard protocol to put weight in the back or not. I just didn't want to go all squirrely and wreck my new/used baby!! Having lived in northern ohio(Toledo) I am well versed on snow, but have never driven a truck in it. Mine is a 2010 supr cab 4x4 w/ taction control. AWD / 4x4 does infact give a false sense of secrutiy and nothing works good on ice!!

Lived in Alaska for 12 years, always just switched to studded an siped tires in the winter and no issues. My 35s that were studded an siped were animals in the snow an ice

That's totally incorrect. The biggest misconception and factor most people overlook is they never learn the limits of their vehicles and themselves. This is why you see so many 4x4's in ditches during and after a snow storm. My old "01 F150 Supercrew is great in the snow and it is fun trying to get it break loose and do donuts. All in a closed parking lot of course.

Here's my Son when he was 15 learning how to do donuts. He mastered it really well!!!

In Iowa I never see 4x4s in the snow. Trust me, I enjoy counting them on the way to work every morning after a storm. They're always mostly older sedans. But I once saw an Excursion that was pretty far into the snow. Stayed there for several days I would say until someone removed it. Probably because they needed a tank to do so.
