Invoice says 38k not 34k

I see that now. Not sure how I got 34. But now I am more confused. What does that invoice number mean and how does it enter into negotiations? Someone please explain that to me.

As the sales guy got me on my way he thanked me for the business and said see you in 2 years when you buy again. I have bought several vehicles from him over the years.
I respect your opinion, but calling me names? I am of that age that I need to look a man in the eye and shake his hand if I'm going to give him that kind of money. BTW, I would LOVE to have the opportunity to sell you expensive items

Some dealers are a-holes. Some salesmen at dealers are a-holes. And many customers are too. More customers are ill-informed, have no idea how to negotiate for a vehicle, don't know the invoice before they come in, fall for sales tactics that are used in every industry, etc.
News flash: ANYONE who manages to survive in the car sales business for more than a month is an A-hole on some level. It is far and away the most ruthless, screw your mommy over a nickle business in this country- bar none. I outta know, I've worked for about a dozen different car sales operations in my lifetime. Dealerships look a whole lot seedier form the inside looking out- and that's a fact. I wish you could see the way they laugh after you drive away all happy about your new car- your opinions might change a little.

So then the rebates and incentives come off the invoice too so the difference from MSRP to invoice is what the dealer has to play with and hopefully still make a profit?

No. The dealer has already made a profit if he sells at invoice. See the link I provided which discusses "holdback", which on the F-150s I believe is 3%. So on a $30,000 invoice price, they've already made $900 profit. And the more they sell, the more they get back. And sometimes there are dealer incentives that you the customer don't see.

All customer rebates come from the manufacturer's pocket, not the dealer's pocket. So if you buy at invoice, they still make their $900 (in the above example) even if you have $8,500 in rebates.

MSRP is meaningless to the dealer.

But in your sample invoice, MSRP is ~41K and invoice is ~38K. My truck was MSRP 41K and I paid 31K so why in the world would I want to pay invoice of 38K?

He's not counting rebates, just plain invoice.

If you can buy under invoice, without using rebates, digging into their holdback money, your either the master buyer, or you bought the ugliest color they had on the lot.
