Default How long is the break in period

I have read through the owners manual and looked online. All I have found is no towing until 1000 miles.
I'm wanting to know if my mpg will increase after the break in period?

Yes you will. I did save 1-2L/100 after a while.

Towing is not recomanded untill 1000 miles or 1600 km.

Is the full break in 1000 miles or is it more?

breaking in a motor is a old wives tale. its debatable. search the net.

ive always run the motor the way you will drive it from brand new.
if you baby it, baby it.

if your going to beat on it and tow, do it right from the beginning.

I hate driving it like I stole it, I always baby the truck. Never heard of any problems from people who have.

Well, I've had her over 22 years and I'm still trying to break her in. But she's so damn stubborn.

Generally, the average break in period for a gasser is about 285 hrs (20000 miles @ 70mph). Over that first 20K, you will see a slight improvement in mileage (not great). The not towing until 1000 miles thing is mainly just to make sure the plant put the drivetrain together correctly.

That being said, a diesel has a about a 1300 hr break in period where depending on the engine and emissions equipment you can see a massive mileage change (sometimes a 5 mpg increase) and most companies don't say to begin towing with them until around 285 hrs (which really doesn't happen cause you buy a diesel to tow things with).

the way you break it in is the way it will be from now on ...we have big rigs that have been beat on from day one and they pull better than all of them ...then we have the ones that go nice and easy on them and they suck for pulling power
