I know that on my Ranger I had in high school, when my starter had started going out, i could get under there and beat on it with a hammer while somebody else cranked it and it would start. That only worked a few times though. I would not suggest that, but I learned all kinds of ways to stretch things that couldn't be. Like driving without being able to disengage the clutch for about a month. (and yes, I know manual transmission, pull start, blah, blah, it wouldn't ever work on my truck for some reason. Hydraulic clutch keep it from pull/roll starting?)

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. Wouldnt be too hard for someone to just push and dump the clutch if it had been a standard transmission...

I am told that you can push start an automatic, although I've never tried. You have to get the truck moving at least 30 MPH to do it. I wouldn't want to try it either, even if it does work.
