Default High Altitude Problem 2008 F150 5.4

I have a problem when traveling through Colorado, it happens on the way thru the continental divide when towing (around 3000#) only on the way out, not on the return trip, it is a loss of power, like there is nothing there when you give it more throttle does it down hill and up hill. No check engine and does not do it after stopping for about a half hour, after passing thru the divide. Any ideas, should I stop and shut off after bit of traveling thru the mountains, is the computer not adjusting for altitude fast enough?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance
