Default HELP!!! Fuel Guage keeps reading incorrectly (usually high)...

Asked this in the model specific forum but can't find an answer...

So my fuel guage on my 07 F150 Lariat will read normal about 75% of the time. Other times it reads nearly full (computer says 350-375 miles until Empty.

I know the tank is currently about 1/2 full and some times when I drive it reads fine, often for a few drives. Then out of no where it will read high for a few drives.

Had it in the shop and they checked and cleaned all the connections. They want about $500 to change out the Fuel Sending Unit (another $300 to replace the fuel pump while the tank is out) but I don't want to just throw parts at this.

Surely someone has seen this.... Just ran fuel cleaner through about 1/2 a tank of gas.... This is driving me crazy!!

A temporary fix is to use your odometer to determine your fuel usage. That's what I do on my motorcycle.
Fill your tank and set your odometer to 0.
Run through most of a tank of gas and note the mileage.
Now you know about how many miles you can go on a tank of gas.

Doing this now... But want to get it fixed but hate to just replace the fuel sending unit if thats not the problem. Damn computers in vehicles now.

I get 430 miles to a tank on average for what that's worth...

I would hope that the shop would actually check to see if the sending unit is working before replacing it.
