Unhappy Help with changing Oil Filter

Can some one give me better way of changing my oil filter for my 2004 F-150 new body style. 4.6L. Oil filter is so close to the mad-fold it is a knukle buster. Can anyone help with a better way? Or has the same problem

Have you tried getting at it from underneath? That's the easiest way to do it on the 5.4.

You mean to tell me you don't have a hoist in your driveway, guess you'll have to lay on the drive just like the rest of us.

LOL, Ive got it easy. I just reach inbetween the tire and wheel well. My filter is mounted up front behind the driver side fog light.

I am a tech, so I have alot of neat tools. Go to AutoZone or Sears and get a oil filter claw. You will also need a 3/8 rachet, and a long extension. Makes is so easy. The claw has 3 fingers that kinda bend the filter up but gets it off in seconds.

Once you get the filter off do yourself a favor and replace it with a K&N filter it is just about the best oil filter presently made. You can remove with a 17mm socket or wrench. see the illustration below.

Ditto the oil filter claw pliers I have had a set of them in my tool box for a couple of decades nice to have when you have a oil filter that some Bozo must have installed with an impact wrench.

The K&N Filter will run you roughly about $15.00. They are made by the same people who make Motorcraft and Mopar Filters. I attached a pic of the claw that I am talking about. The filter pilers are handy, but not as handy on the newer Fords.
