My opinion is that unless your making 500+RWHP the cost for QUALITY LONG TUBE HEADERS aren't worth the gains. At least that's the rule of thumb on the Lightning forums, and those are supercharged 5.4Ls.

Shorties are a waster of money, Long Tubes are best.

ive seen long tube header makers claim 40hp gains. That's worth $500 for a set imo.

Well get LTs and a K&N, K&N claims up to 30HP too.........

I can only go off of what I see on the Lightning forums. And a rule of thumb there is that the factory exhaust manifolds on the 99-04 Lightnings flow well up to 500RWHP. Did you know that the 4.6L, 5.4L, and Lightning Supercharged 5.4L have the same heads, cams, and exhaust manifolds? So if they flow enough for a larger engine that's supercharged, there going to do just find for a other wise stock 4.6L. Im not saying they don't make power, im saying that as long as its a Stock Block N/A 4.6L the gains aren't worth it. And when I said QUALITY, I didn't mean the $500 OBX headers...

lol, not quite. aFe claims 16hp on their intakes and I have a dyno scheduled for tomorrow to get a baseline done then I am installing the intake and getting another done. I plan to put this whole "intake does nothing" debate to rest since no one seems to want to back it up with a dyno run.

So your going to dyno your truck as it seats now, then install a aFe intake and make another pull?

What intake exactly?

What truck, motor, and other mods do you have?

Thanks Wayne, that is what I guessed. The tiny gain in HP Is not With the labor and cost.

afe is a aftermarket company that makes intake systems, exhaust, etc.

Honestly if your looking for nice gains I would suggest a tune, shift kit, & removing the clutch fan and installing a set of electric fans.

yes, a before and after dyno run. will do a dyno pull with it bone stock, then with just the intake installed and no tune, then have them do a mild SCT Tune on it to pep it up a bit. motor is 2010 FX2 4.6 3v. intake is aFe Magnum Force Stage 2. no other mods, truck is bone stock powertrain wise.
