ok. first post and it may not even be in the right spot. Never bought a new or almost new truck or financed one but tired of driving beaters, and gonna bite the bullet. have read tons of eco vs 5.0 threads but still in the air on it. but have narrowed it to 2 trucks. im a fireman, and do all kinds of side work. have cows, tractor, minie x, ect. i pull stuff but not a whole lot.

the trucks are; white 2013 fx4 ecoboost 18k miles 2:55 all the whistles 38k$
from private owner
; black fx4 5.0 36k miles 2:55 all the whistles 36.5k$

any imput would be appreciated. thanks in advance. also plan on driving until wheels fall off. and im not gentle on trucks.

Welcome to the forum. The question is an age old question ask for centuries. The only thing I can suggest is drive both, and buy the one your gut says to buy. Both engines are great, and the difference in the mpg's is minimal. As far as price the '13 eco carries a price that you can probably get a new one for. I take it the 5.0L FX4 is a '13 also. If so it may be more in line on price. I suggest before you buy used, if you haven't already check the price on new ones. There's is a lot of rebates, and incentive that may put a new right in your wheelhouse. You can use www.ford.com under "Shopping Tools", then "Incentive & Offers" to see the rebates in your area.


You will get a lot of info. on prices folks paid for their trucks. Remember when you see those that rebates, and prices are regional. Good luck, and be safe.

thanks for the welcome. the 5.o is actually a 2012. ive went to a couple dealerships and actually one like that new is looking 39800. ive dove both and like both. love the sound of 5.0 love the speed and torque and cool factor of eco. truck fever. i got it. want to go get one tomorrow but prolly need to be patient.

im also a armwrestler and drive really long trips to go to tournys. and if the eco does get 2 mpgs better i feel it would be worth it?

I'd get the EB based on color alone...but it's a truck so who cares if it's dirty. Go with the 5.0.

Really, check into a brand new one. The interest rate alone may swing it in your favor, based on those prices. Arm wrestle the salesman into a good deal.

I have no good answer as to what a farmer/fireman/arm wrestler should drive. I am in awe. If I had the choice, I would buy the 5.0

You asked for opinions so here's mine:

Don't buy either.

Black is to hard to keep clean and the the 5.0 has a better chance of lasting till the wheels fall off.

Look for a white 5.0.

And, reconsider your need for an FX. You can get a new XLT for much less than either of those used FXs.
