According to this, they are taxable in Maryland.

Looks like you have to pay sales tax on the entire amount also, it is not offset by a trade or private party sale of your old vehicle. Doc fees are limited to $100 though.

In MD you pay tax on the vehicle before rebates. You could tell the dealer that the $600.00 is a deal breaker. If he really wants the sale he will cave and give it to you.

That's BEFORE any rebates, or trade in even come into the numbers.
It's a buyers market now. Trucks and cars aren't exactly flying off of the lots.

Get your own financing ahead of time also. At least find out what rates you can get on your own. Don't let the dealer set your finance rate.
You can also try checking out their dealer website. I have seen several dealers offer a lower price online then they have posted in the showroom. They call it an internet special, or some such thing.

Either way, good luck!

The dealer is correct. You will purchase the vehicle at MSRP, so you will pay tax on the whole amount. The rebate is factored in afterwards, just as if you mailed in a rebate on a home appliance. Most people look at the rebate as a downpayment, but it is not. It is the factory sending you money after the purchase of their product.

Most of the things like this is not the dealer trying to get one over on you, it is your state wanting every dollar in tax they can get.

Thank you all for the replys. I must say that some of you all are ripping people for responding and not reading the links that people are inserting. Those links are WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! These same links indicate that you do NOT get credit for your trade in towards the amount you pay taxes on in MD> that is WRONG. I have bought 7 new cars in MD with trade ins and you DO get credit for the amount of your trade in. SO THOSE LINKS AND THE CHARTS IN THEM ARE WRONG. How do you find out the truth??????/ Any ideas.....
