Default Goodbye Toyota (forever), Hello Ford!

Just purchased my first Ford, a new 2014 F-150 v8 crew can 4x4 XLT. So far I love it!!!

Previous two trucks were Toyota Tacomas. The 98 had frame rot it became unsafe to drive after 8+ years and around 120k miles. Toyota later recalled them and bought them back but I got nothing, even with a well documented case. The 07 Tacoma (why I was stupid enough to buy another is beyond me - at the time Toyota corporate convinced me I just didn't undercarriage wash the salt off enough) just had a recall for guess what... frame rot. My truck's frame was OK and they applied a corrosion resistant compound. Needless to say, I'm not waiting to see what happens down the road on that one!

I know it's apples to oranges, but the F-150 is so much more truck and so far the gas mileage is about 2 mpg less than the Tacoma - not bad considering how much more power and capability the F-150 has!

Hopefully in 10-15 years I'll still be driving the F-150 and considering a new one, not because of bad experiences but because it earned my loyalty. I'm optimistic and no longer buy the Toyota quality spin!!

Summers22 - thanks! This forum looks crazy helpful.

johndog82 - I know one should never say never, but I don't plan on buying another Toyota ever. Two people I work with that have Tundras are also having frame corrosion issues (one truck less than 5 years old).

I have the same Ford as you, had an FJ Cruiser before.

Got my fingers crossed the engine knock issues does not happen to me.

Sweet another Michigander! My dad has a 2004 Tundra and he had to go have his frame sprayed down as well and what not. I bet you felt that earthquake today, unbelievable!

I'e heard the FJ Cruisers and Sequoias also have frame rot. I think the issues started with the 95 Tacomas, but models across the Toyota truck line even 15+ years later are impacted. I'm surprised this hasn't been more widely reported. It's all over the Toyota forums and I've read a few short articles in the mainstream news over the years but not as much as one would expect. I may just throw a sticker of Calvin peeing on Toyota on my back window....

Definitely felt the earthquake! According to the US geological maps, that earthquake epicenter was literally one block from our house (we live South of Galesburg). No damage we could find, but things did shake noticeably, with some things sliding off of shelves, pictures crooked on walls, etc. Weird thing - it was really loud - never knew that about earthquakes. Fortunately the F-150 was outside!
