Bought this 97 150 a week ago and am still checking it out. brakes REALLY grab first thing in the morning for the first 3-4 times applied after starting up. Then they act normal, meaning I can really press down and they won't grab---just stop the truck as they should.What is going on..... Need to be bled, booster with a vac leak.... Low on fluid...? Thanks for anyone's help. although brake jobs have become almost a standard DIY anymore, I'm no brakeman.

I'll start this off by saying I am no brake expert or even a mechanic.

I have seen similar things happen in vehicles I have owned and it seems to correlate to having high carbon steel brake rotors. The rotors seemed to develop a light coat of rust on the whole rotor including the braking surface pretty quickly. Then the first time I would brake each day it would be a little rough and grabby. Once the thin layer of rust was knocked off, things were fine. If you look at the braking surface of your rotors in the morning before you move your truck I bet they will be lightly rusted and after you drive to work they will be free of rust. I am led to believe this is normal for cheaper rotors.

^^^^true that.. your rotors will get a fine rusting on them. It especially bad in areas of high humidity. When you go to the car lots, take a look at some of the rotors. Most if them will look rusty.

Hello new here. Speaking of brakes, i just purchased a 1982 F-150 last friday. I inspected the brakes and only the pads up front are bad and was wondering if any one has a DIY photo or instructions oon the best way to change pads. I can change out my 2004 sport trac but this 1982 is 32 years old. Thank you for any help. Great to be here.
