Default GEM Module - location

Hi all,
I've beat the net like everyone else on the subject of GEM Modules. I have a 99' F150 supercab and have the issues with the dome light, power windows and radio not comming on till 15 miles into my trip. Happened most recently on two cold mornings. Was wondering if the dealer's guess of being the GEM module is accurate and if so, where is the thing?

Hope you can help.

Thanks,
goodwood

The Generic Electronic Module is a PITA...

Disconnect the battery ground

Remove the steering column cover

Remove the bulkhead electrical connectors from the (B) instrument panel fuse junction panel.

Remove the instrument panel fuse junction panel bolts and remove the interior fuse junction panel nuts.

Disconnect the GEM electrical connectors from the GEM.

Remove the screws and the GEM.

After replacing it may take some driving to get it to act like it's supposed to... then it'll be alright after the "relearning".

On a 99 you will have to go to the dealer to have it programmed.

Thanks for the quick responses. I was afraid of the reprogramming aspect of replacing it. I think I'll just wait it out a bit since it has been so infrequent (knock on wood).

If you had a 97-98 just plug and play after matching options but 99 up has to be programmed.

Around how much did the GEM module cost you? Because the dealership is telling me between $400-$600

Big Mac if your question was directed to me, I opted not to replace it. My issues are not that frequent. Never persued the cost through a dealer so I don't really know.
