FX4 or Lariat?

FX4 or Lariat?
Hello,
I am just about to buy my first F150. I have looked at a couple of them already.
The ones I have looked at were both Lariats, one was crewcab and one supercab – Very nice trucks.
However I have just come across a nice 06 FX4 5.4 Supercab with full towing package and electric bed cover.
Initially I did have my mind set on the Lariat trim. Is someone able to explain the ‘Shift On the Fly’ 4X4 system on the FX4.
And the major differences between an FX4 and Lariat?
Would you go for a FX4 over a Lariat?
Many Thanks

That's pretty much up to you as far as what you want. I mean if you want the more rugged lookin' F150 then go with th FX4 but if you're more concerned with riding in luxury with the wood grain and better leather than go with the Lariat. Is the Lariat a 4x4?? It all depends on what you want more.

Shift on the fly means that you can switch back and forth from 2wd hi to 4wd high when the truck is in motion. In other words you don't have to give up you momentum to shift into 4wd. I think this can be done at any speed below 45MPH. To switch to 4wd Lo you have to come to a complete stop. I don't know for sure but I'm assuming that if you are already stuck you can still switch the truck into 4wd high and the action of spinning the rear tires will in gauge the transfer case. Maybe someone else can clarify that. I would assume though that if both trucks are 4X4 then they would both have this option.

I am just about to buy and I have found an 06 FX4 I really like, looks like it has black leather from the photos. The only good Lariats I can find around here are either supercrew or just rear wheel drive. Really wanted a 4X4 supercab ;-) so I think the FX4 might be my best option
Thanks for the help
