fuel smell in cab
I have a 2005 F150 with a 5.4 3v.
There is a fuel / exhaust gas smell coming through the vents usually more when stopped. I can also smell it when i first start the truck coming out through the hood near the windshield on the outside of the truck. The truck is still under warranty and the dealership has changed everything under the sun on the truck ,but the smell is still there. They have changed the injectors, fuel rail, cats and everything they could think of. Has anyone experienced this as well ??? Thanks Al

Welcome to the site!
No experience here - but suggest to continue to wear the dealer out - this certainly isn't right.
Is the smell more like raw gas, or burned gas?
Has the PCV system been checked out?
Is the carbon canister / fuel vapor recovery system working properly?
Any fuel getting into your oil - perhaps take a sniff of the dipstick?
Fuel lines thoroughly inspected for leaks / seepage - both the supply and return lines?
Sounds like this is going to be a challenge to chase, especially since the dealer has already taken a look or two. Good luck, and keep us posted on your findings.

Exhaust smell
Ditto: I have an 07 F 150 Four door with 118K miles. AS it got cold last fall I started smelling exhaust fumes. It warmed up and the smell went away, now if I do not have the recycle button On, I get an exhaust smell in the cab all of the time. Possible Causes? Am I looking at paying for manifold gasket replacement.

Crawl under it and look under the hood and look very carefully around the exhaust pipe, especially around any bends or curves or joints. You want to look for any signs of soot streaks, which would indicate an exhaust leak. Start at the engine and work your way back.

Hello!
2006 FX4 Supercrew
Yes, I to have it. It has been going on for a few months. I have been trying to accurately describe it to my mechanic also. At first I to thought it might be exhaust and looked everywhere for leaks...
---Fuel smell coming in through the vents. Mostly at idle, air flushes the smell out of the engine while driving, but returns at stop. I must drive with the recirc on.
Potential related problem. The truck calls for power while ascending a hill or when I proceed to pass. I press the accelerator and the truck looses power, seems to bog down and rattle the whole truck.
Lets keep this thread going till we get help!!!

Hi. 2005 FX4 Supercrew 5.4L
Me too! My mechanic saw signs of gasoline leaking from tank. He changed the fuel-sending unit O-ring, but I still have problem. How come so many people have this issue, but no one can solve it. Come on Ford experts!!

You've revived and old thread with a completely different problem.
This question has been answered in other spots on the forum, long story short is that if you're getting a fuel smell in the cab, it's more than likely due to improperly torqued spark plugs after a change.
