They were slipping long before the bailout. One of the reasons was people were making the switch to more reliable imports or other brands. If the quality of your product drops it's only a matter of time and your sales will drop too. I've had nothing but lemons from GM's for years and I won't ever buy another one no matter how good they look. I hope my Ford truck doesn't let me down this is my first domestic in 14 years after my POS GM's.

Sorry to hear that man, were the GM trucks you bought new or used? Cause if they were new and sucked then that's GM, if they were used it could've been previous owner. I've never had one problem from my old Tahoe, suburban, or impala. But those aren't GM pickup trucks so I don't have that experience. I wouldn't worry about Ford- I have the same 5.0 you have and so far it's an amazing engine, and the rest of the vehicle has been solid. I only have about 5000 miles on her tho. So time will tell, but from reading around I can assume Ford was a safe buy for us. I'm gonna be trading In my '13 5.0 I have now for a 4x4 5.0 next year although I MAY go with the 6.2 ... EB is my last option, I love the EB and its capabilities I just don't like how I can't put anything over the intercooler, and also the sound kinda of exhaust kinda sucks compared to V8 but that's not a big deal I'm sure I could find a great exhaust system
So far the truck has been problem free. Fingers crossed.

I'm most certainly not brand loyal when it comes to trucks, whichever offers the best features for my purposes at the time I'm ready to buy is what I will buy. I will be buying a new truck this fall and I've done a lot of comparison shopping between Ford, GMC and Ram. The are all good trucks and I don't think you can go wrong buying any one of them. Sadly none of them offer an extended cab (supercab) with an 8' box in a high trim level. I wonder if the Tundra still offers that?
To summarize, the Ram has actually more of what I like than any of its competitors but its available payload is just too low for my needs so I have to rule it out altogether. The F-150 is a relatively dated design and to me is not as appealing overall as the new 2014 GM products. One of the more obvious examples of this is the more than 400 lbs weight it has than a comparably equipped 2014 GM.
Still I have not ruled out buying a 2014 F-150 if Ford makes some key improvements to it (no heated steering wheel available in a $60K truck?!). But I do not expect them to offer much here with the major revision upcoming for 2015 MY. As it looks right now, it's likely I will buy a GMC 1500 Denali, perhaps with the 6.2 engine, late this year.

I am in the same exact mindset as you. Every one is hating on the new GM trucks, but I actually like the GMC sierra/Denali, and if the 6.2L really ends up having 420HP 450TQ then you can bet your *** its at the top of my list. I honestly don't like how the Chevy looks tho, the front looks like its from the 90's and the rest of it newer, together it's kind of messy and I just don't really like it.
I saw some lifted '14 silverados with body paint color bumpers and grilles, and it looked better without all the chrome but still not better than the GMC. I test drove a couple RAM 1500's and I actually like a lot of the neat little features they offer but they still don't have the payload the F150 or GM offers. It's a shame because RAM really added some awesome features this past year. I would never buy a Toyota but that's just me. Just don't like those or Nissan trucks. I want a 4x4 truck next so it's pretty much either F150 or GMC sierra. I love ford and they are the best all around IMO. If I get the F150 (which I am leaning towards doing) it will be an FX4 most likely, unless I can get a great deal on a Platinum.
I'm gonna wait it out, see what the GM 6.2L engine brings, and also see what's in store for the new F150's, I might even wait just a little bit longer because we all know Ford is gonna release another game changing vehicle in 2015 with the Atlas, etc. I think that alone may be worth it Ford always seems to stay a few steps ahead of the competition when it comes to Trucks.

I LIKE TRUCKS
I saw one the other day and it looked okay. The finders on the body are like the fords 2009- present where they are indented at the top it there more boxy. The truck looked alright but it was a gmc

TTV6>V8
Go for a test drive in a ram. They have pretty damn nice interiors. The only things I really can't get over is the coil over rear suspension, and maybe that stupid cylinder shut off thing. Other than that dodge has really stepped up their game. Which is good because Ford is doing the same which will only result in better products for us hopefully Chevy realizes there is a ton of money to be made and fix those damn wheel wells.

The wheel wells on the GM's have been flat in the top center since the early 70's.
