Ford launched the new 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor in August with a 5.4-litre V8 making 235kW (320hp). The vehicle had been publicly unveiled at SEMA 2008. Since August over 3,000 orders have poured in. Now a new FR Raptor XT is being offered. The off-roader is not street-legal and is therefore only intended for the beaten track. It is powered by a 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 producing an estimated 368kW (500hp). All four wheels are run by a 6-speed automatic transmission through an electronically selectable 4x4 system.
The 2011 FR Raptor XT features a coil-over system with bypass shocks up front and at the rear, a Chromoly "4130" rollcage, factory seating with five-point restraints and off-road beadlock wheels and tyres. Only 50 units will be built and sold at a price of US$99,950 each.
At the same time Ford announced the availability of the new 6.2-litre for the normal road going Raptor. It is capable of 302kW (411hp) and 588Nm (434 ft.-lb.) of torque. Ford says this makes it the most powerful half-ton truck on the market. An MSRP of US$41,995 has been put on it. Orders will open on December 1 with first deliveries scheduled for early 2010.
