$5000 extra for a trade is the same as $5000 off sticker. Maybe he could do better, maybe not. If it's the truck he wants with the options he wants, then the numbers work for him.

After a month of shopping...I finally nailed down a deal today. After checking with six dealerships and telling them I wanted to keep my prior payment of $347., today a dealer emailed me then called , the 2015 F150 XL-window sticker is $42,500, 5.0 with trailer tow pkg and snow plow prep, sport appearance pkg ....he'd take my 2010 F150 with trailer tow pkg and appearance pkg pretty ,69.k miles ,pretty much same truck. 2010 has 3.55 gears...2015 has 3.31 gears. Both 4x4 crew cabs. $347. @ 60 months....I'm pleased. I go Monday to do the deal. I'm pleased. Allowance $20,800 for my 2010.
Something just doesn't seem right with this deal. Dealers have there shady ways of doing things. I would take a closer look at everything. Your basically getting a 2015 for 42,500 OTD but to get you at a payment of 347 you have to come up with 20K give or take. What do you owe on your current f150? You said you have a payment on it now?

I didn't realize this thread would get kicked around so much. But if it helps others in buying I'm glad it is. No I had title in hand when I signed the papers , I had paid my 2010 off. The truck had seat covers since new and detailed at a bodyshop in June. So it looked and was in very good shape. My trade was pushed up to $21.k even and payment was dropped to $343. with rebates and interest was 1.64%. Again for me. I was very pleased with the dealership and would buy there again.
When I stopped with my girlfriend to look. We walked the truck lot reading window stickers. Back and forth. I could see the salesman inside the showroom. No one came out. We looked and looked. I pulled my 2010 up front to get a trade in price. We went into the showroom to meet a salesman. We tried out the truck I bought that day. But trade price and payments didn't match what I wanted. Before I left I asked the salesman about not rushing out when we were sticker shopping. He replied, 'we understand folks like to look and were right here if you want to buy'.

Everyone has a different reason for trading. For me its piece of mind traveling and delivering for my business. At tax time 50% of my truck is claimed for business. And to say there is not much difference in a truck with 21 miles or 68,000 miles. Your wrong.
Just installed OEM mud flaps and a duraliner tailgate protector. Tomorrow I roll the bed floor with rust-o-ileum bed liner, then cut out a sheet of 14ga galv 5' wide- cut out for the wheel wells-that gets dropped in the bed to protect for scratches, install crew tube steps and that's all the extras I need .
I have a Leer cap for the winter months here.

Glad you are happy with your new truck, and that is all that matters.
But unfortunatley it's a big numbers game at dealerships, if you did not already know. Back in the day I had a Ford Aspire that I took in to trade at a Chevy dealeship and the salesman told me he would give me 10k on trade if I bought a new Corvette. The car had 165k and was 10 years old.

A good deal is a state of mind! The only person that needs to be happy with the deal is YOU

He got 20K for his trade (a 5 year old truck with almost 70K) and paying 20K for a new truck. Like he said, finding an XL that met his needs was hard to do in his area. If he is happy with the deal he got, then why are half the people here saying he got a bad deal and half saying good deal? It always comes down to those few that think they ALWAYS get a better deal than everyone else in the world and try and rain on the parade of the people who they think didn't get a good deal. Some people want a certain monthly payment. In the end if he knew exactly what he got on his trade (which he did) and the invoice of the new truck and it met his monthly need then where is the problem?
