How many miles between oil changes?
I have a 2016 F150 with the 5.0 in it and the oil change reminder popped up on the screen at 3400 miles,I think thats premature seeing I am running full synthetic oil,it has been a year since I have changed it though,I don't haul anything and trips are usually 10 to 20 miles to the stores and back,I thought I should at least get 5000 miles between changes, what are your thoughts?
BTW..I have about 23,000 miles on the truck and it uses zero oil..very happy.

1 year is about all I like to go, even if the mileage is low. The way I look at it the full synthetic let’s you go down to that last percentage on the oil change meter safely. I changed mine last week, the meter said 13% left, it was about 6000 miles and 10 months.

I'm happy to give you my thoughts. Take it or leave it.
- I don't believe you're driving enough in overall miles. Distances per trip seems ok. It's the people who drive less than 5 miles per trip average that seem to have more trouble later unless they do something like a once a week 50+ mile highway speed trip. Like go get breakfast on Saturday/Sunday morning in the next major city type of drive where they can get a good hour at highway speeds.
- 3400 miles is pretty low these days yet it is within the 3,000 to 10,000 max recommendation. My guess is you hit 1 year and the truck wants the oil changed no matter the oil condition.
- To my knowledge, no engine has ever failed due to too frequent oil changes. That doesn't count the tech who breaks off the drain plug due to mishandling and other such mishaps or occasional premature failure.

Regardless of how many miles you've driven the OLM is on a countdown to one year.
It's telling you it has been one year since the last oil change so change the oil as per the owners manual.
Ford says to NOT go more than one year before changing the oil.- regardless of miles driven.

You can reset the monitor, I'm sure and keep on driving until you reach the miles that make you happy if you want. But if that were the case you woldn't have posted this thread.
Like above, it will alert you at a year.
I do not like to go more than 6 months, or so. I don't drive enough miles to meet the miles requirements so I'm barely over 3,000 miles when I get it changed, but between 6 and 7 months at the most.
I'm still a work from home person, my daily drives are better now than before. Less stop/go in the city for the 4 mile commute I used to make. I would not drive more than 6 months if I were still working at the office.
My answer to all these "when do I change" threads is "do what makes you happy". If you want to accumulate additional miles because you think you know best, go for it.
Just like today's other oil change thread, everybody is going to tell you something different and you'll need to sort out and find the answer that you wanted and carry on.

I'm thinking someone didn't reset the indicator at your last oil change. or it's due to the 1 year anniversary. Most vehicles now are going with 10,000 mile intervals. I change my 5.0 somewhere between 7000-8000 miles.
