Cut the BU/WH wire. Wire the end to the mirror to the common (C) of a single pole double throw (SPDT) switch. Wire the end from the harness to the normally closed (NC) of the switch. Wire 12 volt positive to the normally open (NO) of the switch.

Here's a different view with SPDT switch inserted. Sure wish I had diagrams like this. Anyone know where they can be obtained?

That diagram is from the factory manual. I bought one. It comes on a CD. It also contains repair procedures and many other physical drawings. Above is from the wiring diagram section. depami is correct in his switch connections. It is a more clever solution. You could use a small rocker or push button switch near the mirror. Perhaps in the area of the dome light and it would minimize the wiring.

Yep I bought the dvd as well but there is a more dynamic manual online if you pay a fee for a subscription www.motorcraftservice.com and the subscription also allows the user to run his/her own oasis report on any Ford vehicle for access to tsb's, ssm's etc... essentially the same access a dealer tech would use.
