F150 trade in or Private party sale
What did you get for your f150 trade in or private party sale? Did you make money or loose money? What did you pay for it and what did you let it go for? I have been told by guys they have made out trading/selling their trucks after lifting them and aftermarket wheels and tires. Lets hear em!!!!!

generally,
trade in = less time, less effort, less money
private sale = more time, more effort, more money
someone may have got a great trade-in but got hosed on the price of the new truck, or vice-versa. I tried to sell my car privately for a while (without too too much effort either, and way less demand for it than a F150), no serious bites so I said f' it and just took it in and gave it to the dealer.

This. And no, you GENERALLY will not make anywhere near the money back on mods install. Just cause you dropped $4k on lift and tires, doesn't mean you can sell it for that much more.
Having bought and sold a good number of mild to wild modified vehicles from basic bolton stuff to engine rebuilds with blowers, ect ect, usually are looking at twenty five cents on the dollar for mods. So basically if you dropped 10k on mods, you can typically sell it for about $2.5k ish over what stock vehicles in similiar shape are selling for but also bear in mind that a modified vehicle will have a specific buyers market, wont appeal to everybody

One thing to consider depending on your location Most states only charge sales tax on the net sale could be as high as 10% you don't pay tax on the money for your trade only the net difference where if sell private and use the money for new purchase you will pay tax on the full amount.
I guess "most" is more than 1/2, but quite a few don't give you any break, or just a partial break.

Yeah I always laugh when I see someone tack on the total costs of their mods to the price of their truck. Sadly unless you find that one person who knows what you did to it and want it just like that, no ones going to pay an extra 4 grand cause you put an Icon suspension on it or 3 grand worth of wheels and tires.
You're better off parting it out before you sell the car whether it's a trade in or private sale if you want to maximize profits in most cases.

I learned that lesson when I sold my 06 in a private sale and I had to pay sales tax on $36k instead of paying sales tax on $16k when I bought my 2011. The same guy that bought my 06 wanted to buy my 2011, but I traded it in for my 2014.

last year we sold my grandpas 2004 Lariat Supercrew 4x4 5.4 private party, 2 months prior another guy in his office traded in an identical truck (Year,Color, Engine, Condition, Miles..ect Identical) on a 2014 F-150.
We sold ours for $17,500
He traded his for $10,800
He was kicking himself for not taking the time to sell his himself. I could never trade when i know what i could get myself. Taxes are not a concern here as there is no sales tax.
