Default F150 Towing

Hi, I'm new at this and not very good but here goes. I am thinking of buying a new F150 to tow my 27 foot travel trailer. The trailer weight was listed at 6300 pounds dry weight. I was wondering if i could pull it with a 4.6 with a 3:55 rear or should I go ahead and get the 5.4

I would also get a 5.4. While the .6 is adequate the 5.4 will do a much better job. It has more torque down low than the 4.6 and for towing that is where it is needed.

Thanks guys for the info. I was thinking the same way but was also thinking about saving a buck. I'm going looking for a truck today, hope I can find the right truck at the right price.

Last memorial day weekend rented a 24foot travel trailer that weighed about 6000lbs. My 5.4 screw towed it like it was nothing. Your going to need an electric brake controller which can be bought for $100.

Everybody is going to tell you to get the 5.4 obviously. The 4.6 will do the job, just not as comfortably as the 5.4

Hi Guys, thank you all for the advice. My wife and I are now the proud owners of a new 09 F150. We chose the XLT model equipped just about everything we wanted including the trailer brake controller. I pulled the Prodigy controller out of my other vehicle just in case but I'm sure the factory one will work just fine. The only problem with the truck is my wife loves to drive it. Rats!!!!!!!!!!!!!
