F150 Sound Screen windshield Is it fact or fiction?
Hey all,
It is time for a windshield on my 2013 F150.
You know that creeper van we all see and are leery of? Well, my bride and I were cruising up the freeway dragging our travel trailer last Sunday at freeway speed when this van came screaming down the ramp on the right, past us, and crossed 4 lanes of freeway to get in to the far left. All at a very high rate of speed. Silly thing was rocking left and right as if it had no or very bad shocks!
Well, suffice it to say, SOMETHING came from his van, hit my windshield and created 3 unique star breaks all at the same time about the size of a half dollar.
So, insurance call, and then the windshield shop. First in fairness, the guy did not in anyway press on me that I needed an after market windshield
I did however directly ask his opinion if the "SoundScreen" technology on the ford windshield was for real or just Ford sales tactics. He immediately indicated it was all hype.
SO, Question to the Ford Brain Trust:
Is the Sound Screen technology for real or just another Rich Corinthian Leather
I've already decided on the factory replacement windshield vs a less expensive version that will get installed on Monday.
Just thought I'd ask!
Scott
FYI: Glass companies do not clean upholstery. I asked because I almost crapped my pants when we got hit!

i've installed plenty, and although there may be an engineer that could prove the Sound Screen windshield is quieter, there's more that goes into insulating a car than just the glass..
i remember when this whole Acoustic Interlayer technology came about, expecially on GM cars, some had it while others did not. they put the emphasis on the glass, but the insulation in the doors, firewall, floor, and roof were the same across the trims. this made no sense and i only pushed OE for insurance customers or those wanting exactly what the vehicle came with..

How do you know if you have it? This thread is the first I've ever heard about SoundScreen. Thanks!
