EPA MPG vs real world MPG clarified

Canadian MPG results
Just a gentle reminder to my fellow Canadians,. The on board fuel calculation in MPG are all set for US gallons, so are not accurate for us Canucks. Either do it the old way , calculator and paper each time you fuel or use litres /100km and use this sight to get a accurate consumption number.

Being in Canada I only use L/100 as a reference. My EcoBoost is not as good as my 5.4 was any day of the week. At higher speeds it is pretty good but at lower speeds it isn't even close to either the 5.4 or the posted ratings. Lots more power though.

I find with my 12 5.0 sc that on the freeway at 65 i get good mileage in the 20-22 range. But in town and residential areas where i need to stop every 1/4 mile or so and never get over 30mph there is no way to get over 12 or 13. I see other posts where city mileage is much higher but I don,t believe we are all doing the same comparisons. We can,t be. I have tried every thing possible including coasting and turning off the engine at stops and these trucks at low speeds with a lot of stops just cannot get any better than 13 or so. Certainly not the 15 its supposed to get. Again on the hiway good mileage that is impressive with a 3.55 axle but lowspeed in town and traffic sucks big time. I love the truck though. - John

I have the 2013 with the 5L V8, 5,000 miles.
The first 2,000 miles I averaged around 17. The next 2,000 miles it went up to 19.5 highway (at 75, 80) and 18 city/highway.
I have found that the quality of the fuel makes a big difference. Running cheap Sonoco gas I got as low as 17 highway - they probably sneak in more Ethanol.
It's really criminal how the EPA tests on full gas and then forces us to buy Ethanol laden gas.

Living in Oregon we cannot reasonably check the mileage of a tank of fuel as we do not control the filling of the tank. (Oregon and New Jersey require attendants to fill all except motorcycles) so you are at the mercy of different shut off levels with different fuel pumps. I have to rely on the on-board computer for mileage statistics. Oh you can verify over time and several fill-ups to get a reliable average, but I don't drive enough in a season to do that.
I did replace my regular air filter with a K&N filter and my mileage improved about 1.3 MPG and is now usually around 18.2 I am sure if you got a more aggressive air filter from K&N or others that replace the airbox, things would be even better.

I'm loving this 3.7L engine. 2012 XLT super cab 2wb and my wife accuses me of driving like "an old lady" but still...20mpg with a solid mix highway/city driving. I'm happy

And bagged a 570 mile tank with the standard 26 gallons...

I've gotten as much as 25 mpg out of my 2013 3.5 with 3.55 gears 6.5' bed but of late i have been getting right around 20 mpg but that's due to the fact i only drive my truck about 20 or so miles and that i have a brush guard on that catches the wind. I took a trip out to Colorado a few weeks back and got 23/24 mpg depending on where i filled up, weather and speed limit of 65. On the way back the speed limit was 65 to 70 depending on the state and still got around 20/21 mpg with going up the more mountain route back to PA. I averaged roughly 21/22 mpg round trip. Gotta say i'm happy with the mpg i'm getting. When i had to tow my brothers truck home (near max payload for my truck configuration) i got 18 mpg going up and down hills and having varying speed limits.
