Im so done with posting mpg....just thought some might like to see whats possible....
Search and or keep your eyes open. I am not the only one to post mileage like this
I believe it bro. I drive normal and smart in my eco 3.5L and am getting 18.5 in really poorly designed roads. Alot of stopping at lots of intersections, bad timed traffic lights, and over all congestion. People need to understand that over 45 mph mileage takes a hit, the faster you accelerate mileage takes a major hit, constantly accelerating and slowing is wasteful. Most people, a MAJORITY of people drive like absolute crap and that's why they can't believe you.

I am one of the crap drivers, I accelerate smartly to the speed limit or so and then try to keep it steady till then, Oh I will let my foot off the gas if I see I will soon need to slow or stop, but until then get into high gear and drive steady.

Every vehicle I've owned I always get EPA or better. Your fuel mileage is dependent on you and your right foot, and your vehicle. You have to drive with the intention of getting higher fuel mileage, and it can be done without driving slower than traffic or holding anyone up. Larger tires and wheels, raised ride heights, power mods, weight, towing, etc, are all mileage killers. Our previous '07 Chev Avalanche 2wd LTZ, hauling stuff (no towing) averaged 16-17 mpg around town, and about 20 mpg on highway. Our new '16 F150 Lariat s-cab, 5.0, 2wd - 3.31 gears should be about the same, maybe 1 mpg better - at least that's my expectation. We'll see...

I just bought a 2015 F150 screw with the 3.5L ecoboost, 2 wd. I bought it used with 13k miles on it. Also has a backflip bed cover. I have tried driving like a grandma and get 16.5 to 17 mpg with 85% being highway (minimum 45 miles without touching the brakes).

I've dropped the speed down to 65, tried speeding up to 75/80. Seems like no matter what, I'm stuck in the 16-17 mpg range. I've yet to break into 18.

I've noticed the wind makes a huge difference in mileage with this truck.

Jon I think you are there, it's all you are going to get. It is called a pickup truck, you bought it for its utility.

I have a '15 screw 5.0, 3.31 gears, and I just made a trip to atlanta last week. I got 22.3 mpg averaging about 70-75mph. I get around mid to high 18's on average in town. I have gotten as good as 19.2 in town, but not sure what happened with that. I drove to Port Canaveral back in October for a cruise. I had 4 adults, and 2 16 year olds with the bed full of luggage. I averaged 21.1 mpg over the entire trip. I thought that was good for a truck. Happy New Year to everyone!

Without knowing the gears, can't say if this is it or not, but I can tell you, 65 MPH or more kills MPG. Your last sentence says it all! You have to push this big brick through the air, and the faster you go, the harder it is to move that air. I'll bet if you do a couple things and try again, you will see the MPG go up.

First, do a hard reset of the computer, either disconnect the battery for 30 minutes or more, or get a tuner that can clear the KAM.

Second, do a pedal alignment. These trucks are drive by wire, you have to calibrate the gas pedal with the throttle. It's a simple process documented elsewhere on the forum.

Third and most important, slow down. Use the cruise set at 60 MPH, and get the lead out of the right foot. The more you press into the turbos, the more fuel it consumes, and I am not referring to acceleration only, but to any driving, which is why I say use the cruise! Accelerate normally, not granny style, but a nice steady pace keeping the RPM around 2K-2500, and no more, then once up to speed, set it and forget it.

My RWD 2014 EB with 3.15 gearing gets me 18 winter and up to 21 summer driving exactly as described above, with or without a tune. I run an 87 Perf/Tow tune which improves performance overall, but MPG wise, it is not much different than stock, I get the same MPG with or without it.

Browse my stats

It is combined winter/summer and towing, did a lot of towing this year which dropped the average by nearly 2 MPG.

Just remember the faster you drive it, the more fuel is needed to push the air, its just physics, cant do anything about it. Even Hybrids have this problem. The high tank, 24 MPG was driving 55 MPH for the entire tank, so I know the EB CAN get good MPG, but driving 55 MPH is a PITA even though that is the speed limit on the roads I drive, but so many people are in such a big hurry that they are constantly on your bumper that I do 61. If that isn't fast enough, then pass me. For the most part 60 is the norm around here on the 55 highways. Driving 5 MPH slower can make a big difference.

I have 12 screw 5.0, 3.55. I posted when I first got the truck. I now have 22k on it. What I have noticed over the years is that the truck is capable of some pretty good numbers on the freeway but stop and go driving in town is not so good. I probably only get 12-14 in real life city/residential driving. I make a trip to Oregon from norcal every year about 500 miles each way. There are some mountains to cross and some flat areas too. I tow a boat behind my motor home and my wife follows in the truck. We are averaging about 60. For the trip each way the truck gets 24 mpg. Sometimes a little more or less. I am pretty happy with this. I think at almost any hiway speed I can get 20-22. And if I slow it up 24 plus.
Real life average for me though is about 15 because I do a lot of city driving and it drags the average down. Don,t believe the high city figures I hear. probably not comparing apples to apples as some guys city driving just doesn,t compare to others. Most of these trucks with same equiptment are probably getting within a mile to gallon of one another if driven the same. Just to many variables.

Every highway I drive on down here in So. TX, it's 75 mph for the speed limit, so pretty much everyone is doing 80. I tried 65 one night going home from work (72 miles one way) and dang near got ran off the road.

I did get 21mpg today going to work, but had a 15 mph tailwind.

I'm averaging around 14.3 mpg on winter blend with 2010, 3.55 gearing and the 5.4L V8. I did slightly better before winter blend which is expected. I also drive with tow on which seems to help a bit. But in then end trucks are the helicopters of the road. You are not gliding threw the air. You are beating the crap out of it until it moves.
