I have a 2013 fx4, 10k miles. It has a leveling kit and 20" tires installed by the dealer prior to my buying it. On a good day I get 12.9mpg is this normal? I see many others getting much more. Thanks

Posted this in another thread a little bit ago but thought I'd throw it in here. That's all around town driving as it sits in my sig. It should be a bit better than it shows since it has the bigger tires on it. I think there's a little over half a tank left in it now.

Seems low, what is the leveling kit? I am sure the larger tires reduce the mileage as well

Does anyone getting between 17 and 20mpg on the highway have a max tow package? With the stock gearing with the max tow package I often see 17mpg if I baby it (60-65mph cruise control on ).. But most of the time normal highway driving, (70+mph) I only get 15.2mpg

Currently I am getting 17 to 18 MPG in mixed driving, I have about 20,000 mile on my 2012 and it has a max tow package and 3.73 gears Gas here in western Oregon just dropped to 2.93 for regular unleaded. I imagine they will climb back up after the elections.

Have recently traded (07/14)the 2011 4 door 5.0 4X4 XLT for a new 2014 crew FX4 w/ the 3.5L boost. Has just over 8K on it now. Made a all highway trip for hunting this past weekend, freeway speed is 75 so set the cruise on that. Have been impressed w/ the power but have yet to see much if any better than 18' ish /mpg. Now I do remeber my 2011 w/ the 5.0 gas mileage did not improve till sometime after 10K but it was pretty consistent @ 19 highway mpg once it had a few miles on it. Wondering when the boost will produce better mileage? Again, love the truck & happy w/ the power but hoping to sometime see 20+mpg w/ out having to get behind it & push it.
2014, FX4, Crew, towing package, 355 gear, 3.5L boost. 87 octane pump gas

Just turned 17,000 miles. Latest tank of gas - 13MPG. Mixed 50/50 highway/city. Pretty flat roads here in Atlanta.

Worst gas mileage yet on my latest tank of gas - 13 MPG!!! According to the dealer everything is operating within range. Even though I have had a Ecoboost loaner while it was in for service and averaged 19.2+, I borrowed a buddies Ecoboost and ran a tank through driving similarly as I drive my own - 18.8+...

My truck died on the side of the road at 1000 miles, intercooler, 3 spark plugs, turbo, etc.... later my mileage from that first tank of gas fell off a cliff - tired of hearing how great everyone else's truck does. I drive this gently, don't tow, etc... and the mileage really, really stinks and now we are headed into colder weather and it will be even worse...

2013, Plat, SuperCrew, 355 gear, 3.5L boost. 87 octane pump gas

The stop and go has a real bad effect on your poor mileage in th ATL. I do not miss the traffic at ALL

I've had 70's ford f150's that could hit around 17-18 mpg with a 300 cid 6 cylinder and a 3 speed standard. Un-real that a new eco-boost can't blow that out of the water. I assume these car manufacturers are well stocked in oil, thus the resistance to improve mileage. I believe they have the ability to get the MPG's much higher, they just don't want to. And perhaps emissions requirements impede some of that ability as well. I guess there's little point in buying a newer truck to get better MPG's. The cost to benefit ratio just doesn't add up. However a new truck is pretty darn nice too

l agree with you but don't forget that all vehicles today are stuffed with options, and safety equipment that was never even imagined years ago. With all that stuff, comes weight. Vehicle weights have not really gone down much, when you compare today's vehicles with those of the 70's or 80's, heck even the 90's probably. You get a lot more toys and safety, at the expense of increased weight. Wonder what a new F-150 would get if it was built to the same option and safety standards as years ago?? And you can't find the 'base' models like you used too.
