Is ecoboost for me ?
I read lots of things on the ecoboost and for a while I was sold on the 5l. I'm young and this is a big purchase for me so I want it to last a while without any big repairs.
I will be towing a double sled trailer maybe 1-2 times winter months and maybe a small boat in the summer.
I'm looking at 2011's and there is a lot more ecoboosts than 5l for sale.
Mostly city driving during the week and highway trips on the weekend no more than a couple hours.
Winters are extreme cold so I don't know how that might affect the ecoboost.
Opinions ? Thanks

You are not towing anything that will stress either vehicle.
For long term I would go 5.0 simply due to not having the replace any of the turbo components. While they will last for quite a while you will eventually need to replace some of the components.
Also if you get one of the sick Eco's that are no longer under warranty you could be in store for a big repair bill.
When buying the 5.0 listen for engine knock at idle and with the gas on very lightly as there are some sick 5.0 out there.

I too have a mythical 2011 EB that has run flawless. Gets good MPG's, makes plenty of power. Never had the CAC misfire, pulled my CAC and there was about 3 drops of oil in it. IMO, the 2011 or very early 2012 is the most desirable if they have the original CAC and not the nerfed ones replaced by the TSB.

If that's all you will be towing then a 1998 ford ranger will suffice just fine. To answer your question in a round a bout way...

Not someone unhappy with it, who traded it in awaiting a naive buyer.
The reasons for a used buyer to exercise caution in buying 2011 EcoBoost equipped trucks are definitely something a consumer shouldn't ignore.
#1. They were plagued with issues right off the jump, so a noob isn't going to know what SHOULD have been done, and what isn't important without ALOT of homework even with an Oasis report in hand.
#2. Tuners are often used on EcoBoost equipped trucks to jack up Boost, and it's obviously putting more stress on internal components , therefore reasonably shortening the service lifespan of the motor, and transmission. < This applies to any year USED EB truck.
.....and yes Tuners can put the stock tune back on before a sale and you're never going to know. FWIW I own a 2013 EcoBoost F150 and I love it, but I bought mine new to avoid the tuner unseen damage possibilities, as well as the 1st and 2nd years of issues that people had issues with that could be dumped at dealerships. Same reason I bought my crotch rockets new, to avoid unseen damages to the frames from stunterz banging up bikes and reselling them with stress cracks in frames.
