I had a buddy who did it with a 5.7L Tundra and he said he barely broke even, I wouldn't recommend it long term, however...

Uber frequently offers promotions for new drivers, anywhere from $500 to $1250. The promotion for new drivers usually requires you pick up X amount of passengers your first day/week or something like that. I would say driving for Uber for a week, pocketing a G and then using that on your vacation would be beneficial.

One of my buddies on facebook works for uber and constantly posts things saying he will give you $500 to sign up for him, because if he references someone he will get $750 and you will get $750 as a new driver. So, you could find someone currently working for uber and say you will signup through him if he splits his profits with you. Then you get your 'signing bonus' and half of his.

Just some food for thought. But I don't think its worth actually driving long term.

It's more profitable, that's for sure. Though there is something to be said about working for yourself and the mileage write off isn't terrible; something like .54 cents a mile.

You could probably make more money delivering newspapers though. (:

I think that Uber/Lyft is a great idea, no doubt.

But I have to wonder about the profits for the driver if Uber has to offer a $750 bounty for new drivers.

Many insurance companies won't cover you if you drive for Uber or Lyft.

They will if you buy commercial insurance, but will likely drop you if they find out your using personal insurance.

That's why people drive for both companies. I also do cash tips to help out.

The ones that are making bank are driving a Prius.

Having owned two late model Tundra's, that made me laugh your buddy would even consider it with the **** poor mileage the 5.7 gets.
