Dodge Ram EcoDiesel?

Boost :)
Fuel costs are one thing to compare, but what about maintenance costs? Does this smaller diesel have the larger fluid capacities associated with most diesel engines? Or no?
What about the Diesel Exhaust Fluid? Does this one have to use it? Extra fuel filter costs? What other maintenance might be associated?
I don't mean to take anything away from having a 1/2 ton diesel, but I know of so many people who ditched their 3/4 ton diesels for the EB due to those maintenance and ownership costs, that I'm wondering if those who buy this will have the same issues or costs?

So the $200 saved in Diesel fuel costs over the EcoBoost gas costs can easily be lost on DEF fill ups. I forget what the going rate is for that and how often you'll need it , total for 1 year.
So they might actually break even. Longevity, I'm genuinely curious to see how long my EcoBoost lasts. I know Ford engineers stated the Turbo's are good to 150,000 but that's probably where they only warranty them to. I'm hoping for 300K + but.......ya know.

You don't have to wonder, the site you linked to gives you that option to compare & calculate.
This is the setting of 55% city/45% highway @ 15,000 miles annually.
2015 Ram EcoDiesel 4WD = $2500 fuel annually
2014 Ford F150 3.7L 4WD = $2550 fuel annually
2014 Ford F150 3.5L 4WD = $2700 fuel annually.
So $200 a year less to drive the 125hp lower EcoDiesel VS the EcoBoost.
So $50 a year less to drive the EcoDiesel vs the V6

I think what is important will be the comparison between the 2015 diesel numbers and the 2015 3.5 NA numbers and the 2.7 Eco numbers.
I believe that $50 to $200 annual difference will not only disappear, but will put the diesel in a fuel cost hole for annual fuel costs.
We will soon see. Very soon.

We picked the truck up at 5:00 and paid $250.38 for the service. Here's how that breaks down:
Oil: $101.20 (11 quarts @ $9.20/quart)
Filter: $60.00
Labor: $10.10
Disposal fee: $3.00
Diesel exhaust fluid: $58.50 (6 gallons @ $9.75/gallon)
Tax: $17.58

Yes, we know that you can do it cheaper yourself. But, again comparing apples to apples, I believe my Lariat first service was around $40.00.
I just had my 35,000 mile done for $51.67 last week at my dealer.
Definitely higher routine maintenance costs for the diesel.

Ive owned 5 ford trucks since 1994.
Im looking at trading my '12 5.0 Lariat on an Eco Diesel.
I drive 30-35,000 miles a year, mostly highway.
True average mpg on my 5.0 is 15.8mpg
Most Eco owners are reporting 23-25mph mixed driving and 28-30 highway speeds.
8-10 miles per gallon more per tank.
I dont have my numbers in front of me but diesel+oil changes+def vs gas+ oil changes is about a $300 savings per year with the diesel. Not much. Ram does give you 4 free oil changes so add $500.
Rams diesel mpg numbers are true numbers. You will get 28 mph running 75 down the interstate. Fords numbers are always 1-2mpg worse than posted on the sticker. Im lucky to see 16-17 running 75 on the interstate.
And to boot my 80,000 mile truck just had a new short block installed under warranty for the famous 5.0 knock. 20k more miles (8 months)and I'm out of warranty. Ram comes with a 100,000 mile power train warranty.

Have fun with the...
EGR
DPF
SCR
and a tuner to turn all those systems off to make it reliable.
I have a Diesel and there money pits. If I didn't have to haul tractors up to my Cabin in the summer...I would not have one.
