Dilemma: 2WD vs. 4WD

I agree that it really all depends on what u want to use ur truck for...if u plan on doing a lot of off road and towing then u should go with the 4x4 but if u just want a truck with a lot of power then the 2wd will work just fine...I have a 2wd and MT tires and it can handle pretty much anything...but don't expect to pull ur friends out of mud holes etc with a 2wd...if u r going to be doing those type of things then get the 4x4

It all depends on your personal needs, plain and simple. I hunt and fish, do I need 4x4? Nope, I have a Gator I take out to the woods on my parents 400 acres, and they live down 9 miles of gravel road. 99% of the time 4x4 is just not needed, even when launching my 28' pontoon.
4x4 to me means worse gas mileage, higher property taxes, higher insurance cost and higher initial cost. I dont buy vehicles with resale value in mind, so that argument is out. Put 500lbs in my bed for winter and snow/ice is not a concern, never has been.

I don't use 4wd often but the few times I have used it it probably saved me from wrecking the truck. If you live in the snow belt 4wd is probably worth it.

I drove through 8 inches of snow in my 2wd with a detroit truetrac limited slip rear with 300lbs. in the bed.
It also got me out of a muddy spot in one of my friend's yards. I've driven in this spot hundreds of times but the amount of snow plus lots of thawing made the spot muddier than i expected. I slipped some backing up but pulled out fine.
Here are picks of the aftermath. It's nothing compared what the offroad people do but I'm still happy with it.

If you don't tow anything much more than a small 'Utility Trailer'...
If you don't go Off-Road Driving...
I have to agree. Sounds like a candidate for a 4X2.
The advice about getting a Locking Differential is sound.
Lots of people would be surprised where you can go with careful driving
in a 4X2, especially with a LD.
