The only advantage to having 4wd down here is launching a boat, when all the two wheel drives are spinning wheels to climb up the ramp the 4x4's just mosey on up with ease. I traded in a 04 4x4 Explorer and that was the only time I ever used 4wd.

Expense, fuel economy, and lack of resale value in these parts negate owning one unless you are always off road.

Probably to haul stuff in the bed or tow trailers, boats, etc.

I have lived in Kansas for 40 years, we get about 30" of snow a winter. My 2wd trucks have always done fine.

Also to this statement I quoted, 3/4 of the 4x4 trucks on this site rarely leave the pavement, so why buy a 4x4 if its a pavement queen?

We can all play this game.....

I will always go 4wd because it's better to have and not need than need and not have theory.

It's a bit more at purchase and it gets slightly worse milage (not enough to sway me) but resale will be better in your locale and having it for soft ground, storms, and boat ramps help.

I store my tandem axle trailer behind the house in the woods and when I go back to get it with the truck it can be wet, instead of spinning two wheels tearing up law I just put it in 4lo and creep out.

I have owned 2 lifted 4X4s. One on 37s and one on 38s, they stayed cleaner than most Corvettes on the road. So, when I was looking at a new truck, I decided to spend the extra 4X4 money on the 402a package(fully loaded, heated and cooled seats, sunroof, NAV, etc) on a 2WD. I did a small lift with 33s and love it! BUT, now I hunt and fish ALOT more than before. This has made me regret not getting 4X4.

You may not need it but when you do your gonna wish you had it. It also helps with resale value.

So with that being said I won't buy another truck that isn't 4X4.

4x for me.

When I was 15 I bought a 2wd Ranger for my first car. It pissed me off to watch my sisters front wheel drive Eclipse perform better than my truck in adverse conditions. The truck was sold whithin the year and I have been driving 4x since. I don't use the four wheel drive very often but I enjoy knowing it's there for me.

I agree with most. It totally depends on YOUR needs. I don't see, for my needs, the point of a 2WD truck. I got a truck to use as a truck. I use it a lot for towing (only a 5x8) around for building supplies for home projects and carrying stuff in the bed. I also bought a truck because a fish and hunt a lot. During the season I put about as many off-road miles on my truck than on-road miles, if not more. Many of the places I got are nasty and a 2WD truck will not absolutely not get it. For me, 4WD is the way, for you 2WD might be the way.

I disagree, real trucks are rear wheel drive (although they may have eight rear wheels and 18 total)
