Hey Guys,

I have a Noob question to ask. Went hunting today and got their cut my truck off and then a few min. later tried to restart and it would not. It would turn over then start making this click-click-click-click noise real fast. Had someone try to jump me off and it would not start just keeps doing the same as before. Is it my starter or new battery might do the trick? Any help would be great since I know nothing about motors.

Welcome to the board!

Sorry to hear about your problem with your truck. The click-click sound is probably the starter relay or the solenoid not staying engaged. I am not a mechanic, just somebody that has always tried to do his own repairs, when I am able. There are some very good mechanics here and they should be able to help you with your problem, you will just have to be patient until they find your post.

he has a good point, and im not a mechanic either, but ive had a few problems like that too, and i ended up changing battery and put new ends on cables and works a lot better now

I am a tech. Have your battery checked. If it is good, then it would be your starter.

If you haven't corrected the starting poblem yet, here is an idea. If you are all good, then shame on you for not giving up some feedback. OK turn on headlights and try to start engine, if headlights stay on and engine won't crank over, you have a starter issue. On the other hand if the headlights go off, then its a battery issue. A good battery will have enough power to run headlights, sound the horn and still have enough power to crank the engine over for starting.

Thanks guys for all your help. Just got back with my truck. It was the battery. Hated leaving it in the woods overnight but it turned out fine.
