Cooler weather = lower mpg??

2012 F150, 3.5L EcoBoost, CA emissions. I live at 5,000 feet. Lately 15% humidity with temps from 35F to 55F. The local gas stations may have switched to their winter 10% ethanol mix (not sure).
Given all that, my average gas mileage has gone UP 1 MPG (from 14.5 to 15.5 MPG).

Never ceases to amaze me that one would buy a heavy truck and expect fuel economy.
Drive and work the damn thing or buy a Prius.

I have always considered the price of fuel to be one of those "it is what it is" things ... I'm not gonna drive less because gas prices go up ... it's just a forever fluctuating part of the cost of of ownership of ANY fuel-burning vehicle. If gas prices go up, I just have to find somewhere else in my "budget" to save a few bucks.

Just because one needs a truck doesn't mean we should enjoy spending $130 per fill-up...
sure the difference between getting say 15mpg and 17mpg might just be a few bucks, but those few bucks are better in my pocket than Shell's or Total's...
As far as I recall here, no one is expecting 30+mpg from their truck...

It is what it is. Guess I could change it to a Chevy Volt since the Prius is old

It isn't some 10% ethanol mix winter fuel that is the issue. Gasoline, by itself, also has a certain level of butane. This is why it vaporizes so easy in the open air. Butane has a lower BTU energy content. Winter gas has a higher level of butane because it doesn't vaporize as quickly in cool weather as hot weather, and it also aids in winter engine combustion.
So, winter fuel, just by the chemical makeup, is going to deliver lower mpg.
