Default catalytic converter help!!

I have a 2001 f150 v6 4.2L I had failed emissions, p0171 and p0174
had the plenum gaskets, isolator bolts, and IMRC brushings just in case.
The guy I had paid to do the job is now telling me since the plenum isn't leaking the computer picked up a bad cat and evap code he wants to over price me on the job for the cats, So I was thinking I would get some magnaflow cats on ebay and install them with exhaust clamps, I was wondering what kind of clamps work best or even if they work well at all, also I was wondering if there was something I could do to the precats to alow some more room for the engine to breathe. such as shoving something through it or would that put to much heat on the new cats?
And I am not sure if the cats i was looking at have the ports for the oxygen sensors on the cat, If I disconnected those 2 oxygen sensors would the computer pick it up?
I know its a lot to ask but I Really am not sure , Thanks ahead of time for any replies.
