Default Cap ruined side of truck.

I have a 14' with a leer cap and access cover. I had the cap taken off for the first time yesterday and the side of my tuck is ruined. Was wondering if anyone else had this same problem. They run for about 3 ft down the side of the bed.

The paint chips and scratches are from the cap sitting on top of the truck bed ? Or are they from you opening the side access doors and hitting the truck with tools and junk your putting in the back ??
I've always had Leer caps and some with side access doors. The only issue I ever had was maybe the bottom of the door trim rubbing on the tailgate where it closed.

It is on the side of the bed. It looks like the cap had been rubbing against the paint the whole time it was on there. I didn't know if there should of been something there that they didn't install.

If the cap sits on the top of the bed....how does it scratch the sides ?? ...but rereading you say "access cover"...I guess that is the cover that's like 6" high ?? If that's what it is...and it drops down over the sides of the truck bed...then yes its possible. I never owned one. But if the inside gasket gets ripped or torn or binds up some how...anything is possible. Go back to the Leer dealer and see what he says...

Yes the cap sits on top of the bed sides, but the fiberglass goes lower to hide the gap. So there is an overhang.
I just checked mine and the overhang is 1/4" from bed sides. Maybe top was loose and moving around. Mine is '14.

Foam sealant tape prevents direct contact, and whenever I have had toppers/caps they went on when the truck was new and never removed and went with the truck when sold or traded.
